Vreid artist

Following up the critically acclaimed and Norwegian Grammy-nominated album ”V”, Vreid is back with their new opus “Welcome Farewell”, displaying a new and fresh approach to their already trademark sound. The Vreid Brigade’s music is often referred to as ”Black & Roll”, and Metal Hammer UK described their music as “a unique time-travel in metal, and one can hear elements of 70ties rock, 80ties classic metal and Norwegian black metal.” Now they added yet a new twist to it, not easy to describe, just very Vreid. Vreid is a band touring heavily. They have done over 300 shows in 22 different countries across 3 continents. They have played major festivals like Wacken, Summer Breeze, Party-San, Metal Camp, Inferno, Ragnarok, HITS, ØYA etc., and toured with bands such as Enslaved, Pestilence, Marduk, Unleashed, Eluvetie, Belphegor, Einherjer and Kampfar to name a few. In 2011/2012 Vreid headlined tours in Norway, Europe, India & North America, and toured the UK with Paradise Lost. In 2012 Vreid toured India for the first time as a central part of the ”Questionings” performance. This performance also headed to Norway, and Vreid was the first metal band to perform at the national opera house in Oslo. The band has big plans for 2013 and will be hitting the road in April for a European tour, this time with Solefald and In Vain. Vreid was formed in 2004 after the demise of ”Sognametal” legends Windir. Some described their music as a mixture of the ambiance of Windir, the rawness of Norwegian black metal and the rocking groove of Sepultura, Metallica and Motörhead. Since then Vreid has continued to grow and develop their own distinctive sound, and released five albums and one DVD. The latest album ”V” is their biggest success to date and received fantastic reviews such as 6/6 in Scream Magazine, 5/6 in Norwegian national newspapers VG & Dagbladet, and 9/10 in US main metal mag Decibel to name a few. ”V” was also nominated to the Norwegian Grammy (Spellemann) for best Norwegian metal album in 2011. Vreid’s unique sound is blended with historically inspired lyrics. Their 3rd & 4th albums ”I Krig” and “Milorg” were both concept albums about the liberation work in Norway during WW2. Liberation was also the keyword on ”V”, but then seen in a broader historical and philosophic view. The lyrics on the new album “The lyrics on the new album “Welcome Farewell” describes a lifecycle in a series of short stories, seen from an existential point of view. The lyrics are more personal now than ever and are inspired by Hváll’s own local community with its nature, architecture and historical artists such as Arne Garborg and Otto Valstad. The award winning creative wizard Kim Holm, has taken the artwork on “Welcome Farewell” in a completely different direction from Vreid’s earlier releases and captured the music and lyrics on the album beyond words. On February 22nd 2013 they will release their 6th Opus “Welcome Farewell” on Indie Recordings, the follow-up to their greatest success so far, the Norwegian Grammy nominated “V”.
